What is HDCP?
HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) was developed by Intel Corporation to protect the transmission of digital video and audio data via DVI or HDMI from illegal duplication. The licensing of HDCP is managed by Digital Content Protection, LLC, a subsidiary company of Intel Corporation. Several patents protect the legal right of HDCP and anyone who plans to produces HDCP must apply for approval.
The AV contents protected by HDCP have expanded to AV interfaces such as DVD, Blue Ray Disc, play-station, and various display cards. If any component in the system is not equipped with the required master key chip, the AV content will not be able to be played. At present, the specifications of HDCP have evolved from HDCP1.x to HDCP 2.2, which has more strict standards.
